It’s all in the mind…how to grow old laughing all the way…! Reply

With the near year arriving, many of us start thinking about the fact that we’re another year older. What happens when you ‘get old’ ? You age. You go from being a ‘kid’ (or a child) to an adult. When you’re 4 ‘going on’ 5 it means you’re approaching your birthday. Then you ‘turn’ 21 (you celebrate your 21st birthday). Symbolic age. You can go into a bar and order a drink!

When you’re ‘pushing’ 40 (approaching the age of 40), you like to forget about it. Middle age. A turning point in your life. Of course when you ‘hit’ 65 you become a senior citizen. You’re eligible for a ‘Golden Age’ pass. You can enter national parks without paying a fee. Suddenly you become everybody’s friend. Wiser somehow.

Someone once asked the American comedian Bob Hope the following question: Who would want to live to 100?  ,  Before giving you his answer, let me give you some background information about Bob Hope. He is considered today an American legend (in the same ranks as John Wayne). He was a comedian, humanitarian (United Services Organization entertainer from WWII to the Vietnam War), actor and the only civilian who was awarded a the honorary Veteran Award by Bill Clinton, Presidential Medal of Freedom (one of the 3 highest civilian awards in the U.S.) and a Congressional Gold Medal of Honor:  which read: “Bob Hope” Humorist, Humanitarian, Patriot Presented to Bob Hope by President Kennedy in recognition of his having rendered outstanding service to the cause of Democracy throughout the world.” All of that without ever joining the military! In 1943 during WWII John Steinbeck said of Hope  while working  as a war correspondent:

When the time for recognition of service to the nation in wartime comes to be considered, Bob Hope should be high on the list. This man drives himself and is driven. It is impossible to see how he can do so much, can cover so much ground, can work so hard, and can be so effective. He works month after month at a pace that would kill most people.

So getting back to the question…When asked who would ever want to live to be 100…Bob pondered a few seconds and then said: “Someone who is 99!” Bob Hope died at the age of …100! Click on the following presentation and see for yourself the kind of advice that we should all follow! Good luck and beat you there (to 100…!)!
