Here are my “quickpicks” that correspond to the “best” American culture has to offer:

RUDOLPHE THE RED-NOSED REINDEER

gene autryRudolphe the Red-Nosed Reindeer is one of the best-selling Christmas songs of all time selling over 25 million records. It tells the fictional (shhh…don’t tell your children…) story of “Rudolphe” one of Santa Claus’s reindeer who set himself apart with his glowing red nose. Because of this he was ostracized by the other reindeer…until one “foggy” Christmas Eve when his luminous nose came in handy as it was able to light the way for Santa’s sleigh saving Christmas Day for millions of children! This song was written in 1939 as a publicity story for Montgomery Ward, a large department store owned by Robert L. May. It was inspired by the traditional poem “Twas the Night Before Christmas” by Clement Clarke Moore (written in 1823) and uses the same metric rhythm. The country singer Gene Autry recorded this song in 1949 and it hit No. 1 on the Billboard pop singles chart selling over 2.5 million copies the first year. This is the version that I chose to share with you:<iframe width=”420″ height=”315″ src=”http://www.youtube.com/embed/0byH9h1ClBY&#8221; frameborder=”0″ allowfullscreen>

Another favorite among children is ‘Santa Claus Is Coming To Town’:

Christmas wouldn’t be Christmas without ‘Frosty the Snowman’:
